PC not recognizing external harddrive?

I have an external 60 gb hard drive (smartdisk) when I plug it into my front USB port I can here the system recognizing it but it does not show up under my computer as a drive. This has happened in the past with a different USB drive. I was told to unplug all my USB devices and restart the computer. It did work in the past but this time it did not work. What can I do to be able to use the hard drive again? Oh, I tried using it on my laptop and it recognizes it fine.

I am using a HP Media center PC with 4 USB ports in the back and 2 in the front. The rear ports are filled with, Printer, Mouse/Keybord, Camera, and network storage. Thanks for the help.

Network Storage device is basically a server which is specifically dedicated to the file sharing system. It is not actually like a device attached to the department computer which serves applications to a networkâs workstation users rather network storage device is a hard disk storage setup with its own network address.

PS3 USB To Network Mass Storage Device Adapter?

Sorry if the title is a little vague but its the best i could come up with

Basically, i was wondering, is there any sort of adapter i could buy that I plug in to the usb port of my PS3 then plug in a network cable to the usb adaptor which connects to a pc. The ps3 then recognises the usb network adapter thing as a mass storage device? I want this because i need to back up my ps3 and dont want to spend alot for a external hdd in FAT32 ><
